Training Tips To Stop The Barking
Does you pup bark all the time at everything in site?
If you have a pup under 12 weeks of age you may not see this barking behavior yet, but things will change from weeks 12 and on as the pup will
start announcing their presence by barking at other dogs, cats, people, and even objects that it has never seen before. Why does a pup do this?
Well, it might be because the pup perceives these things as threatening. This sounds like, and is a natural response from the pup, but this type
of barking may not always be appropriate in all situations.
To correct this type of behavior the animal's interpretation of the stimulus must be altered. This process can take anywhere from a day to a
few weeks or even longer to change. First, the pup most change it's interpretation of who and what it thinks is threatening. For example, if you
have a friend over and your pup starts to bark at this person and you want it to stop. Don't start shouting at the puppy to obtain silence as
this shouting may merely reinforce the Pups barking. What you need to do is approach your friend in a friendly manner, crouching down while
demonstrating friendly trust as an invitation for the puppy to approach. Remember that the puppy should never be pulled or ordered to the guest.
The pup will come around when she feels confident, a way to help make this happen is to have the guest crouch down with the pup's owner. The
guest should remain still and passive while the pup comes around for a visit. The more you pup sees your friend the more comfortable she will
become and this should help stop the barking at friends and family.
This same method can be used when dealing with the pup barking at other objects or sounds. To stop the barking in situations like this you
need to take the puppy to the object or sound and allow it to investigate the area or object. Remember to stay crouched down and talk softly and
in a jolly voice as this will keep the pup comfortable. Repeat till you see the change you are looking for.
There are many secrets to stop the barking of a pup, remember to avoid reinforcing the barking of anything that you don't want the pup to bark
at. This can be hard at times but if you follow the above tips and remember not to shout at the pup to stop barking you should see results. Good
